-Processes, freezes, and stores muscle appropriately
-Sections and stains (routine and histochemical) tissue, preferably skeletal muscle
-Cuts and stains quality frozen sections
-Maintains adequate stock of reagents, supplies, liquid nitrogen, and dry ice.
-Decontaminates cryostat and stains as required
-Sharpens cryostat knives according to procedure
-Orients muscle fibers for freezing in isopentane
-Weighs and alloquotes the muscle at biopsies for histochemistry
-Alloquotes muscle for specific testing, i.e. biochemistry, EM
-Embeds or mounts specimen in O.C.T.
-Cuts and stains frozen sections
-Follows phone and requisition slip format

II.  Special Stains (IHC for a particular position)
-Performs procedures according to guidelines
-Checks each positive control and cross-references cases
-Prepares solutions and buffers for testing
-Cuts and tests control slide inventory
-Follows order-slip sequence for accurate completion of testing  
-Multi-terges glassware

III.  Quality Control/Supplies/Miscellaneous
-Records all quality control, CQI monitors, decontamination data
-Inventories and orders all supplies for testing needs at workstation
-Follows all equipment maintenance procedures

Duties
-Accurately match the request for testing with the label on the specimen; checking name of patient, PIN #, room #, source of specimen, time and date collected, tests to be done, collectors initials. The incumbent chooses appropriate set up procedures to begin the testing process. Any discrepancies in the order must be resolved before testing can continue.
-Microbiology testing must follow the policies and procedures of the department. the incumbent uses their microbiology knowledge to proceed with complete and accurate testing. All work is recorded in the LIS to achieve a smooth workflow until final reporting. Strive to meet turnaround times on STAT and ASAP requests.
-Knowledge of computer system and accurate input of results lead to timely results to give customer satisfaction.
-Records are provided for our regulatory agencies as required. The incumbent monitors the proper function of reagents and instruments in the department. Each control and monitoring device is recorded on appropriate logs.

        <description>Full Time (40 hrs/week) 7am-3:30pm Day        Summary: To oversee the processing of all specimens received in Immunohistochemistry Department, handle and coordinate the workflow for the Immunohistochemistry requests, and perform technical skills as necessary. Education: Bachelor&apos;&apos;s Degree and certification at the Medical Technologist level (ASCP) or Bachelor&apos;&apos;s Degree and categorical certification consistent with the work performed; (C, HT): NCA categorical certification; NRCC, ASM, or equivalent agency. Experience: At least 5 years experience in Histology, Immunohistochemistry and Molecular Pathology preferred. Special Skills: Ability to perform work accurately and pay attention to details, frequently changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. Ability to function competently in a changing work evironment. Ability to work cooperatively within the health-system and with multidisciplinary team members. Ability to use effective time mangement skills to set priorities and perform job related responsibilities. Ability to use critical thinking skills to effectively problem-solve and deliver service. (Note: Interpretation of all equivalences is the responsibility of the Administrative Director of Pathology in cooperation with the Management Staff members responsible for the Laboratory and Human Resources.) Supervision Expected: None Supervision Received: Supervision from the Manager for Anatomic Pathology. Working Conditions: Hospital environment with a well-ventilated laboratory. Mobility required to obtain specimens and move to different areas of Pathology. Requires moderate sitting, walking, and frequent and prolonged periods of standing. Requires manual dexterity to perform laboratory tests and data entry. Some heavy lifting of reagent packages of approximately 50-75 pounds is required. Requires transporting of heavy reagents on utility carts, pushing cart over smooth and carpeted floors. Requires concentration, color recognition and attention to detail to detect changes in specimens and perform clinical testing. Some exposure to corrosive solutions, combustible reagents, fumes, infectious materials, and occasional exposure to radioactive materials. Exposure to blood and blood products and contagious diseases transmitted through specimens. OSHA: Bloodborne Pathogen Category I Employees in this job description are expected to have contact with bloodborne pathogens and as such they are required to be oriented and annually trained under the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration&apos;&apos;s Bloodborne Pathogen Standard (CFR 1910.1030)</description>
